Sharp GX15 is a tri-band cameraphone suitable for global roaming, and it is a candy bar style handset. Among the phone's many useful facilities are a number of advanced features, including its wireless Bluetooth? connectivity, integrated GPRS and WAP technology, MMS multimedia messaging, capture and playback of video clips up to 100 kB, voice memo recorder, Java? enabled software, and a selection of polyphonic ringtones.
This mobile phone has a TFT active matrix LCD display that offers a high resolution of 120 x 160 pixels (QQVGA size), and this screen can also reproduce up to 65,536 different colours. The display allows you to view the available options from the phone's menu system, and also provides a high definition screen to watch the videos or pictures that can be handled by this phone. As the Sharp GX15 is MMS enabled it allows you to send and receive multimedia messages containing text combined with graphical images, photographs, sound, animations or video clips attached. You can also send MMS messages containing sounds recorded with the phone's own voice recorder, or melodies that you have composed using the built-in Melody Editor.
The Sharp GX15 has an integrated CMOS digital camera, which doubles up to take still pictures and video, and it is capable of producing pictures with up to 350 k-pixels. This camera features a 4x digital zoom and supports 3 picture sizes (480 x 640, 240 x 320 and 120 x 160 pixels), with the two picture qualities of "normal" or "fine" also being available. Other camera features are a choice of exposure settings, the 4-shot continuous shooting facility, and an image editor to make modifications to the pictures you have captured. When viewing pictures in artificial light it is possible that stripes might appear on the screen, and so two anti-flicker modes are offered to rectify interference from 50 Hz or 60 Hz mains lighting. A mirror and a timer are also provided to help with the taking of self-portraits.
A common interest these days is in the opportunities available to personalise your phone, to make it look or sound different from those around you. Users will be happy to know that this phone is easily customisable by downloading new animated screensavers, wallpapers and ringtones. In addition, there is a Melody Editor onboard, which enables you to create your own ringtones with up to 32 voices, and you can choose your tones from a list of 128 instruments, including pianos, organs, guitars, strings, brass, percussion and more - there is a good guide at www.sharp-mobile.com.
As the Sharp GX15 is Java? enabled it will run a range of applications or games that use Java software programs. Several Java applications and games are preloaded in the phone, but it is a simple matter to download more of these programs via the Web or MMS when you need to use new content.
With its integrated GPRS technology this phone offers a fast data rate for access to the network services, and this also means that you have an "always on" connection. The added benefit of the WAP browser gives rapid access to the mobile Internet, and so provides you with information, games, music and services that are available over-the-air. This phone is also set up for direct connection to the resources available from the Vodaphone live! portal.
Connectivity to the Sharp GX15 is possible by several methods. You can link up wirelessly to other compatible mobile phones, PCs or PDAs within a 10-metre range using the built-in Bluetooth? technology, or alternatively you may link up via the phone's wireless infrared port to other IrDA devices. Once you have established a connection to the other device, it is then easy to exchange data and files, and to synchronise any personal information that you have stored in your contacts list or schedule. The phone can be used to synchronise with other programs such as Microsoft? Outlook? and Outlook Express?.
