SAGEM myV-55 is a tri-band candy bar styled cameraphone, which makes it a suitable model for worldwide roaming on 5 continents. This is a mobile phone at the budget end of the market, but it still includes some impressive features that make it good value for money. This phone has simple and elegant styling in a silver and black case, and it is an easy-to-use model that will satisfy a lot of mobile phone users. Among the features that will attract buyers to this phone are its integrated GPRS and WAP technology, MMS multimedia messaging, voice memo recorder, a speakerphone for hands-free conversations, Java? enabled for games and applications, and a selection of good quality hi-fi and polyphonic ringtones.
There is a good-sized CSTN type of LCD display provided in this model, which is capable of a resolution of 128 x 160 pixels, and this screen is also able to reproduce up to 65,536 different colours. This is a large screen for a budget phone, and it provides a good means to view the menu selections, monitor your photographs, and to play games on when relaxing. The screen is also useful to take advantage of this model?s MMS capability, because it allows the user to exchange multimedia messages with other MMS enabled phones, and these messages may contain a combination of pictures, sounds and text.
The myV-55 has an integrated VGA quality camera that is capable of a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, with the lens being fitted into its usual location on the back cover of the phone. A smaller sized mobile format is also available for photos, and there is a 4x digital zoom provided for homing in on sections of your pictures. A few editing features are also offered, including the chance to adjust the exposure settings, and to add some special effects. However, as this is a fairly basic camera, it cannot compete with the cameras on the more expensive models. To help with the taking of self-portraits there is a mirror and timer available in the phone, to make sure that you can get yourself into the picture.
For personalisation there is a selection of wallpapers and screensavers supplied in the myV-55, although you can also use photographs taken with the phone?s camera as your own unique wallpapers. A useful feature is the ability to identify your callers by setting a specific picture ID and ringtone for your contacts. It is also possible to use sounds recorded with the phone?s memo recorder as ringtones. An additional feature is that the covers on this model can be changed, to add some more customisation if needed.
As the myV-55 is a Vodafone model, it allows users to access the Vodafone live! portal, or alternatively you can go to Sagem?s www.planetsagem.com website, and then it is possible to download more phone content when new pictures and ringtones are required. The right softkey conveniently provides a quick route to access the Vodafone live! portal.
Being Java? enabled means that the myV-55 can run Java games and applications. Two games come preloaded in the phone - Gulo?s Tale and Siberian Strike - but as is usual, if you want to play something different then you will have to download new games and applications, and pay for them.
The integrated GPRS technology gives this phone good data handling and a faster access to the network, which has the added bonus of providing an ?always on? connection. A WAP browser also offers the opportunity to easily access the mobile Internet, and this allows phone users to seek out the many useful sites for information and services that are available, which cover a wide range of interests such as news, sport, traffic, weather, entertainment, shopping, business, etc.
For connectivity the myV-55 offers a choice of a wireless infrared link, to connect to other IrDA compatible devices, or alternatively you can use a data cable to connect to a PC, PDA, etc. After you have established a connection to a compatible PC, you can then synchronise your personal information, and the necessary software to do this is contained on the supplied CD-ROM.
There are several organiser functions in the myV-55, including a calendar, alarm clock, timer, calculator, and converter. The phonebook can store up to 250 contacts, with 3 phone numbers and 2 email addresses per contact, although other personal details can also be entered. The phone provides the standard functions of a vibrating alert and T9? predictive text input.
