Sharp TM100 is a tri-band cameraphone, and as such will meet the needs of most users seeking a model for global roaming. With its stylish black and silver exterior, this mobile phone appears from the outside to be an elegant but simple looking candy bar design; however, when you open it, this model turns out to be Sharp?s first slider style phone. The black display section slides up to reveal the alphanumeric buttons of the keypad underneath. The TM100 is another model, like some of the Sony Ericsson range, which looks like a phone from one side and like a digital camera from the other side.

This phone has a number of other useful features included in its list of technical specifications, such as its built-in GPRS and WAP technology, MMS multimedia messaging capability, a speakerphone for hands-free conversations, Java? enabled, video recording playback and download, voice memo recorder, an email client service, and a good selection of polyphonic ringtones.

One of the impressive aspects of this phone is its large and high definition LCD screen, which is state-of-the-art, and has the best quality colour and resolution available on any current mobile phone. The display is capable of reproducing pictures at a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and it can deliver up to 262,144 different colours. The screen fulfils the needs of the user when selecting from the icon-based menu system, and it provides a good display for examining the still and video pictures you can handle on this phone.

The Sharp TM100 has an integrated VGA quality digital camera (640 x 480 pixels), the lens of which is located on the back of the phone. A number of features are offered when using the camera, such as zoom and macro close-up options, and there is the chance to carry out some basic picture editing. The camera also includes a night mode for taking pictures in poor lighting conditions, and a timer and mirror to facilitate the taking of self-portraits. One feature that makes life easier is that the camera senses whether you are about to take a landscape or portrait view picture, and it automatically selects the correct format for the viewfinder.

The chance to take still pictures or video with the TM100 means that you are able to capture those special moments, and then the phone?s MMS capability allows you to share these with your contacts by sending them as video clips, pictures, and sounds with text to other compatible phones. However, as pictures and video quickly use up memory, the limitations of the phone?s 2.5 MB of internal storage might be a problem for some users, and there is no memory card slot to expand the phone?s memory capacity.

The Java? capability of the Sharp TM100 offers the user the opportunity to run a wide range of Java applications and games on this phone. One game comes embedded in this model, and more games and applications can be downloaded as needed. For extra personalisation of the phone?s appearance and sound, more polyphonic ringtones, screensavers and wallpapers can also be downloaded over-the-air, or via a data link from a compatible computer.

With its GPRS and WAP technology you have an ?always on? connection for fast access to the mobile Internet services, and the WAP sites now offer some interesting live updates for news, sports and other information and services that people on the move require. There is even a dedicated button on the front panel that connects you directly with the T-Mobile t-zones WAP portal. The TM100?s video capabilities mean that you are able to download video clips from T-Mobile?s portal, featuring such content as news, sports or entertainment. The additional inclusion of an e-mail client is a useful asset for keeping in touch with your contacts, and it supports the standard POP3, IMAP4 and SMTP e-mail protocols.

The Sharp TM100 has a choice of connectivity options. There is an infrared port for a wireless link up with other compatible devices, or the usual wired connection via a standard USB data cable. Once an appropriate connection has been established it is then possible to transfer files or personal data, and to synchronise your schedule or contacts list with a PC, PDA or other devices that you use.
