Palm Treo 680 SmartPhone
Is it just me, or does it seem like everyone needs to be connected to their phone and internet at all times? Palm Inc., one of the leaders of mobile computing, has introduced the Treo 680 smartphone, designed so that you are connected wirelessly, no matter where you will roam.
And you have quite a range with this GSM/GPRS/EDGE quad-band world phone. Palm plans to bring 20 Online carriers with this new smartphone. The smartphone is sweeping the mobile phone industry, and it is estimated that one out of every four mobile phones will be a smartphone by the next decade. This particular model has the ability to respond to calls with preset text message, as well as three-way calling. The text-messaging system is quite similar to IM, and allows ?threaded chats? so you can see your entire conversation with another user.
The Treo 680 is slimmer, smaller, and sleeker than its former Treo predecessors. It has a complete QWERTY keyboard and a 320 x 320 LCD full color screen. It also comes in four colors, including crimson red, copper orange, artic white, and graphite silver. Hmm, most new cells come out in only one color, and then they introduce the variety. Palm is definitely one step ahead of the competitors already.
This smartphone is also very full of features. The Smartphone is Wi-Fi capable, so you can do all your e-mailing and web-browsing as you go. In fact, the Exchange ActiveSync program is designed to synchronize your calendar, email, as well as your contacts. The Blazer 4.5 browser makes surfing the net super, super fast. You can also use the new smartphone as a wireless modem, as Bluetooth 1.2 technology connects your laptop wirelessly to the net. Bluetooth also makes it possible to connect other Bluetooth devices, and the Treo 680 comes with a car-kit and headset support.
Other software features include the use of Mircosoft Word and Excel, in addition to Adobe PDF files and Microsoft PowerPoint presentations. The phone itself has 64MB of available storage, and it even has a Micro SD so you can add 2 GB of storage via expansion cards.
Also, if it is multimedia you are into, this thing also has you covered. You can use the Treo 680 to stream music, play MP3s. For a limited time, the Treo 680 will come with a music bundle from Yahoo Music, which includes a 30-day free trial to its music service. That means that for one month, you have the access to over one million songs, and you can take them with you.
All that, plus an integrated digital camera, camcorder, and video player. You can even view photo albums. Even though the sources say little about video, I certainly don?t see why you can?t watch videos with all the memory.
All this is on a very easy-to-use portable device. No word as far as when the exactly the Palm Treo 680 will be out, but it will hopefully arrive before the holiday season. No word yet on the price, either.
