Nokia 6810 is a tri-band mobile phone, so making it suitable for worldwide roaming. As in the Nokia 6800 and 6820, this phone looks like a candy bar style model, and the handset can actually be used in this form. However, the front section of the phone opens up and folds back through 180 degrees to reveal a full function QWERTY keyboard, split on either side of the central screen. With its QWERTY keyboard, full mobile e-mail client, MMS and SMS messaging, and Instant Messaging, Nokia call the 6810 a ?messaging device?, as it provides the tools you need for good communications.

Other useful features of the 6810 include its wireless Bluetooth? connectivity, EDGE GPRS and HSCSD data handling technologies, WAP and xHTML Internet accessibility, FM stereo radio, speakerphone for hands-free conversations, voice memo recorder, voice control, Java? enabled, and support for multitasking.

The 6810 has a passive matrix LCD screen with a resolution of 128 x 128 pixels, which supports up to 4,096 colours. Opening the QWERTY keyboard causes the direction of the text on the phone?s display to rotate through 90 degrees, so that it matches the orientation of the keyboard in this new position. The QWERTY keyboard is useful for typing long text messages and e-mails, and is faster and easier to use than the standard keypad with predictive text input, although this can still be used if preferred. The loudspeaker automatically comes into operation when the flip is open.

With an integrated FM stereo radio you will have the opportunity to listen to all your favourite radio channels while on the move, and this phone gives you the option to preset up to 20 stations for fast channel selection. The stations may be tuned either manually or using the automatic tuning feature. You can also listen to the radio using a headset or via the loudspeaker, but the headset lead must be kept plugged in as this acts as the radio aerial.

Being MMS enabled, the 6810 will allow you to create, edit, send and receive multimedia messages between other MMS compatible phones. These messages may contain a combination of video clips, pictures, audio files, voice clips, as well as formatted text. You may download new content, or reuse pictures and sounds that are sent to you in MMS messages, and you can then employ these to enhance a message that will make more impact with your friends and contacts.

As with most phones these days, you can personalise the phone with new wallpapers, screensavers, logos and ringtones, and you can download more graphics, icons, animations, logos and ringtones when you wish to update your phone with some interesting new content. Also, being Java? enabled, the 6810 will run a wide range of both Java games and applications. Some games and applications are already preloaded, but you can select new programmes that you wish to use and download these to your phone as and when you need them.

An important feature of the 6810 is its integrated EDGE, GPRS and HSCSD capability. With this technology on board you have the means to take full advantage of the fast data transfer rates that it offers - when you are connected to a suitable network - and this speeds up the downloading of information as well giving faster access to the mobile Internet. The WAP and xHTML browser also provides you with the ability to get the full benefit of that mobile Internet, and they allow you to use the many Web-based services. The mobile phone user now has access to many WAP sites for information and services, such as news, sports, business, entertainments, weather, traffic, and much more. In addition, this phone also provides a full mobile e-mail messaging system, as it supports the standard e-mail protocols of POP3, IMAP4 and STMP, as well as the BlackBerry corporate e-mail service.

The 6810 has a good choice of data connectivity options available to the user. For wireless connection with compatible devices - such as PCs, PDAs and other mobile phones ? you can establish a Bluetooth? link at up to 10-metre range. The other wireless option is an infrared link, or alternatively you always use the standard data cable connection using the phone?s Pop-Port? connector. Once connected you can then start transferring pictures, sounds and other data between the devices. This is also the way to exchange information when you need to synchronise the personal data in your phone?s contacts, calendar, to-do items, and notes with a compatible PC (using PC Suite).

Among the phone?s personal organiser functions are a Calculator with currency converter, Alarm Clock, countdown timer/stopwatch, Calendar, To Do List, Notes and Wallet. The phone?s support for multitasking also means that you are able to perform activities like checking your calendar entries, while at the same time holding a hands-free conversation with a caller.
