Remember the cool NASCAR NEXTEL FanView we talked about that fans could rent out and use while at NASCAR events? Well now everyone can get their hands on one. Sprint and NASCAR are now making the device available for public purchase. This public release comes after a year of rentals and testing by both fans and teams during the 2006 NASCAR season.
NASCAR enthusiasts will appreciate the device's race-day scanner with video/audio capabilities, real-time data, and statistics that are some of the features of the phone. There are also some great advanced features, which include priority scanning, audio replay, and quick channel selection by car number. Fans at the race can also choose to watch the live, in-house NEXTEL Vision video feed, or video feeds from up to seven different driver's in-car cameras.
The NASCAR NEXTEL FanView can be purchased online at nextel.com/fanview, or by calling (800) 799-5921. On race day, you can pick up one of these at Racing Electronics locations and NASCAR NEXTEL FanView haulers. I would recommend buying it before you go to the track because they rip you off by charging you a higher fee. If you buy it online or over the phone you can get it for $369.95, but if you pick it up trackside they'll get you for $415, which includes a last-minute $10 race weekend activation fee (aka as a rip-off).
