LG L1100 is a tri-band cameraphone suitable for global roaming, and its attractive and curvy blue and silver clamshell design should particularly appeal to female phone users. Among the many features to be found in this model are its GPRS and WAP technology, MMS multimedia messaging, voice memo recorder (for records up to 90 seconds in 3 x 30 second recordings), Java? enabled for games and applications, voice control, active flip, and an e-mail client.

There are dual displays in the L1100, which will keep you informed when the phone is open or closed. On the inside is an active matrix TFT type of LCD screen with a resolution of 128 x 160 pixels; this screen is also capable of reproducing 65,536 different colours and up to 7 lines of text. The external screen is an STN type of LCD that displays 4 shades of grey tinted by a blue backlight, and this screen offers a resolution of 96 x 64 pixels. The outer screen shows information such as the time and details of who is calling you, as well as other useful details including incoming messages, signal strength and battery condition.

An integrated VGA quality camera is fitted to the L1100, with the lens being located at the top end of the outer part of the flip. Next to the lens is a small mirror to help the user to aim the camera when taking self-portraits. Five picture resolutions are available from the camera (640 x 480, 320 x 240, 160 x 120, 128 x 160, and 48 x 80 pixels), and this allows you to select the resolution that best suits your particular needs, whether that is to send a picture message, or for adding your contacts? photos to the picture phonebook. There is also a 4x digital zoom provided, and a multishot mode for taking a rapid sequence of up to 9 pictures. Some photo editing is possible, and a choice of three colour effects can be selected for your photos (colour, sepia or monochrome). The white balance can be adjusted to compensate for the colour differences that are found in various ambient lighting conditions, and 5 light settings are provided: Auto, Daylight, Incandescent, Cloudy or Fluorescent.

The camera comes in useful when you wish to take a photograph of some special event, and this adds extra impact to the multimedia messages you can create and send to your friends and contacts. As this phone supports MMS messaging, you can send and receive multimedia messages that contain a combination of a picture, sound and text to other MMS enabled phones.

As with many other recent phones, the L1100 may be personalised by changing the wallpapers, screensavers and ringtones, and new pictures and sounds may be downloaded over-the-air when you need them. A dedicated key is provided to enable you to go straight to the Orange World WAP portal, where you can gain access to more content. You can also set up a photo phonebook, and use this to identify your friends by their picture for easier caller ID.

The L1100 has integrated Java? capability, which enables this phone to run a wide range of Java applications and games. Some games and applications come preloaded in the phone, but when you want to try some new Java programs then these may be easily downloaded. You simply need to search through the titles available and select what you want.

Being equipped with GPRS technology means that this phone can achieve faster data exchange rates with the network, and this has the added benefit of giving the user an ?always on? connection. To make use of the mobile Internet there is a WAP 2.0 browser, and this gives you access to Orange World, where you can find information such as news, sports, entertainment, and a good choice of other online services. An e-mail client is yet another useful feature of this phone, offering the user the capability of sending and receiving e-mails while on the move.

A choice of connectivity options is provided for in the L1100. It is possible to make a link via the wireless infrared port to connect with other IrDA compatible devices, such as other phones, PDAs or PCs. There is also the option to connect with other devices by a data cable, which is available as an optional extra. When a connection is established between the phone and the other device, it is then possible to carry out synchronisation of your personal data, such as that in the calendar or phonebook, and you can also move your pictures and sounds to, say, your home PC.

The L1100 offers several useful organiser features, including a calendar, clock, alarms, calculator, and unit converter. This model also includes the standard T9? system for predictive text input, and a vibration alert to avoid the phone making a noise at times when you have to turn the ringer off.
