Croydon Council's Trading Standards department has some useful tips for people hoping to buy mobile phones during the festive season.
Mobiles are still one of the biggest sellers during the Christmas and new year sales periods and there are lots of offers for shoppers to consider before they make their purchase.
Officers said customers should decide on a network and tariff, such as a pay-as-you-go or monthly contract, and not be misled by cheap rates which may include unexpected hidden costs.

They should also avoid making an instant decision and get written copies of all the monthly subscription charges issued by the phone companies to compare rates.
To avoid being dazzled' by such offers, Croydon Trading Standards has produced a leaflet to help you get the phone that is right for you.
