Alcatel One Touch 756 is a tri-band cameraphone. This is a candy bar design that offers good value for money, as it comes in at a budget price but provides many of the features you do not usually get at this price. Some of the key features of this mobile phone are GPRS and WAP technology, MMS multimedia messaging, video capture download and playback, voice memo recorder, speakerphone for hands-free conversations, Java? enabled, voice control, and a selection of polyphonic and MP3 ringtones.
The display screen in the OT 756 is a TFT active matrix type of LCD, which offers a resolution of 128 x 160 pixels, and a state-of the-art 262,144 different colours - this is an impressive screen for a budget phone. The display provides the means to access all the phone functions via the icon based menu system, and it also provides a good window on your videos and pictures, as well as being a useful screen when playing games on the phone. Being MMS enabled means that you can use the OT 756 to send and receive multimedia messages containing a combination of video clips, pictures, sounds, as well as text. Video clips of up to 30 seconds may be recorded, and although these will be too large to send in MMS messages, you can choose to cut these clips down to 10 seconds to fit them into an MMS.
Alcatel OT 756?s integrated camera is a VGA quality device, and this offers the user an 8x digital zoom, three picture qualities of High, Standard and Economy, and 6 picture sizes. The picture sizes available are: VGA (640 x 480 pixels); Panoramic (512 x 288 pixels) optimised to be sent to a PC; XL (128 x 160 pixels); L (128 x 128 pixels) for use as wallpapers and in MMS messages; M (64 x 64 pixels) to assign to phonebook entries; and, S (32 x 32 pixels) for use as stamps. To get the best results from your pictures there is a choice of white balance settings provided of automatic, sunny, cloudy, night, indoors/artificial light. In addition, to help when you want to take self-portraits, there is a mirror and a timer available.
Some tricks that you can perform with this camera include an animation mode, which enables you to create a short animation of 4 consecutive photos like a small slide show, and a mosaic mode that lets you take 4 photos and then show them as one picture made of 4 thumbnails. Another useful feature is that you can add sounds to your still pictures at the time you are taking them, which might come in useful to attach to an MMS message. There is also the option to add a choice of a frame to your pictures, and to apply some special effects of colour, black and white, sepia or negative.
The usual opportunities exist to personalise Alcatel One Touch 756 by changing the wallpapers, screensavers or ringtones, and such content can be downloaded over-the-air when you need it. To help with caller identification a video, picture, or animation can be assigned to a particular contact, so that these play when the contact calls you. You can also assign a ringtone to a particular group in phonebook (or directory as Alcatel calls it). A tone composer is provided, and this enables you to compose some simple melodies using the keypad.
Being Java? enabled allows you the possibility of using new Java games and applications by downloading them to the phone. Two Java games are preloaded for your entertainment, namely Gulo?s Tale (a platform game) and Speed Devils (a race game).
The OT 756 has integrated GPRS technology to give you faster transfer of data with the network, and a WAP 2.0 browser provides access to the mobile Internet for making use of the many sites for information or other online services. A useful business feature is that this phone supports vCard and vCalendar data exchange.
Connectivity possibilities are limited, the only option being the use of the phone?s infrared port to link up with other IrDA compatible devices. Users can synchronise the data in their calendar or phonebook with that on their home or office PC, and the software supports Outlook Express?, MS Outlook?, Lotus Notes?, and Lotus Organizer?.
The organiser features of the OT 756 include a calendar, to do list, world clock, alarms, calculator and currency converter. A good-sized phonebook of 800 is also provided, and an internal memory capacity of 4 MB should be adequate for the sort of features included in this phone. To make it easier and faster to access your favourite functions, you can choose to set up to 20 shortcuts to get straight to the items you want to use. The phone also has a vibration alert and T9? predictive text input.
